RS virus (RSV) is the main virus causing the acute respiratory tract infections in infants that are prevalent every winter. Furthermore, Adenovirus is one of the viruses causing the common cold syndrome (pool fever, PCF). They are both characterized by being highly infectious diseases that occur in epidemics among infants and children. Due to the high probability of causing group infections and nosocomial infections, rapid detection of the presence of an infection and taking appropriate steps are considered to be important.
The SPOTCHEM i-Line RSV and SPOTCHEM i-Line Adeno being released by ARKRAY Inc. (hereafter, ARKRAY) are in-vitro diagnostic agents for the SPOTCHEM IL SL-4720 densitometry analyzer. RSV in fluids sampled with a nasal swab or nasal aspiration, and Adenovirus is detected in fluids sampled with a throat swab. Determination can be made using the device or visually, and results can be obtained in 5 to 15 minutes. Performing on-the-spot testing in hospitals is believed to be useful for reducing the burden on patients such as shortening waiting times, improving the efficiency of medical care and reducing opportunities for the transmission of viruses.
With the release of the product, there are six products*1 in the SPOTCHEM i-Line series of testing kits. ARKRAY will continue work to expand the lineup of test items to contribute to quick diagnosis and appropriate treatment in treatment sites.
*1 Influenza virus A/B, CRP, Group A streptococcal antigen, IgE antibody (egg white, egg yolk, ovomucoid, milk, wheat, cedar pollen, cat dander, Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus), RS Virus, Adenovirus
ARKRAY has been selling the SPOTCHEM series of simple testing devices for point of care (POC) testing in clinics since 1988. The SPOTCHEM IL SL-4720 is a small rapid testing device that automates immunochromatic testing. This instrument was developed with the idea of using an instrument to conduct tests easily, quickly and accurately in order to improve the quality of treatment from that of the previous visual inspection technique.
By entering the patient name in the reagent cartridge for the device, patient names will be printed out with the measurement results, reducing the risk of mistaking samples. Also, the footprint of the device is smaller than an A4 sheet of paper, so it does not take up much space.
